Wakefield Council Provides £70 Supermarket Vouchers to Eligible Residents

Must read

Households in a specific UK region are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to aid with living expenses. Wakefield Council is distributing these vouchers through the Household Support Fund, tailored to each council’s assistance programs which include energy support, supermarket vouchers, and financial grants.

Residents on low incomes and receiving council tax relief in Wakefield are eligible for the food vouchers. Pensioners who receive Council Tax Support already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other households. Families under Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15, while other eligible households will get a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12.

Eligible recipients do not need to apply for the vouchers; they will be automatically dispatched within 14 days of the mentioned dates. Wakefield Council cautions residents to beware of potential scammers.

It is advisable for non-Wakefield residents to inquire about similar support schemes from their local councils through the Household Support Fund. For instance, Blackpool Council is granting £200 in energy assistance to qualifying households with one or two members, and £300 to households with three or more individuals.

To access the support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in bill payments, providing recent bank statements for all household members. Applicants do not need to be on Universal Credit or other benefits to qualify for the fund, but only one award can be claimed within a year.

Assistance is directly credited to the energy provider and displays as a credit on energy bills or pre-payment meters. Applications can be submitted through the Blackpool Council website.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is offering £120 worth of vouchers to eligible residents, with working-age households receiving two £60 vouchers in late November and pensioner households due to receive two more in early January. Additionally, one-off £120 payments are available for low-income residents paying energy bills without Council Tax Reduction.
