Former England cricket star Robin Smith has passed away at the age of 62 while in Australia for the Ashes series. Smith, known as ‘The Judge’, had been battling health issues, including alcoholism and depression. His cause of death remains undisclosed.

Smith, a right-handed batsman, made his Test debut for England in 1988 against the West Indies. He achieved two centuries during the Ashes series the following year. His highest Test score was 175, scored in response to Brian Lara’s record-breaking 375 in Antigua. Throughout his Test career, Smith amassed 4,236 runs at an average of 43.67, with nine centuries.

In addition to his Test career, Smith played 71 one-day internationals and was part of the England team that reached the World Cup final in 1992. His unbeaten 167 against Australia in 1993 remained the highest ODI score by an English player until 2016. Despite retiring from international cricket in 1996, he continued playing for Hampshire until 2003, becoming one of the county’s most esteemed players.

Following his retirement, Smith struggled with alcoholism and depression. Despite facing multiple health setbacks, he continued to battle. In a recent interview with The Times, Smith candidly discussed his ongoing struggles with alcohol and mental health, emphasizing the importance of reaching out for support.
