“Olympic Champion Ennis-Hill Joins Sinfield’s MND Fundraiser”

Must read

Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill will be participating in Kevin Sinfield’s charitable event in Sheffield to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a Sheffield resident, has committed to running alongside Sinfield on Thursday as part of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge, the fourth leg of the initiative.

Sinfield, who commenced his week-long ultra marathon challenge on Monday, aims to complete a marathon every day. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive annual fundraising effort for MND charities, having amassed over £10 million in donations so far. The funds have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering care center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.

The inspiration for Sinfield’s fundraising endeavors stems from his former teammate and close friend Rob Burrow’s MND diagnosis. Sinfield’s remarkable dedication to the cause has garnered global recognition, with Ennis-Hill adding her support to his latest campaign, significantly boosting MND awareness.

Ennis-Hill, a heptathlon Olympic champion in 2012 and a three-time world champion, transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement in 2016. She serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.

Sinfield’s mission remains focused on finding a cure for MND, accentuated by the recent diagnosis of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody with the disease. Moody, in turn, plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.

Following the Sheffield leg of the challenge, Sinfield will progress to Cumbria, Scotland, and culminate the event in Leeds on Sunday. To learn more about the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
