O2 has officially announced that millions of its customers are receiving a complimentary rapid upgrade. This enhancement introduces faster 5G+ services to users throughout the UK, providing improved mobile coverage and significantly quicker download speeds. O2 guarantees a 50% increase in speed compared to the older 4G network.
Aside from speed and reliability improvements, users can also expect extended battery life as devices consume less power by not needing to connect to both 4G and 5G networks simultaneously. Unlike traditional 5G, which relies on 4G support, the new 5G+ service offers standalone capabilities for better performance.
The upgrade is currently being rolled out to customers who possess 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, with activations in over 700 towns and cities across the country.
Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, expressed that the 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers nationwide. This service is available to all O2 customers on any plan, setting it apart from other networks. The upgrade is particularly beneficial in high-traffic areas and major venues, providing a more reliable experience to residents and visitors.
For local availability, users can check using O2’s postcode tool. Some popular 5G+ compatible devices include the iPhone 15, 16, and 17 series, as well as the Google Pixel 9 and 10 series.
