Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been supporting former driver Lewis Hamilton during a challenging stint with Ferrari this season. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to the team, dealing with a car that is not performing up to par and questionable race tactics.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent grand prix in Qatar, where he had a disappointing qualifying session and finished 12th in the race, outside of the points. He currently holds the sixth spot in the drivers’ standings and risks slipping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing his disappointment with how his debut season with Ferrari has unfolded, Hamilton described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite giving his all on and off the track. Mercedes has been offering personal support to Hamilton, with their chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, confirming that they have been in discussions to assist him during this tough period, even traveling together with Wolff to race venues.
In an interview with CHAMP1, Lord emphasized their empathy for Hamilton and acknowledged the challenges he is facing, stating that they believe in his ability to bounce back stronger from this experience. Hamilton is now preparing for the season’s final race in Abu Dhabi, aiming to secure his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings.
This will mark the end of Hamilton’s time with the current Ferrari model, which has posed numerous challenges for him. Despite the setbacks, team principal Fred Vasseur has urged the team to keep pushing for success and learn from their mistakes to make a stronger comeback in the future.
Ferrari is determined to end the season positively before shifting their focus entirely to the upcoming 2026 campaign.
