“British Gas Expert Shares 97p Tool to Fix Radiator Cold Spots”

Must read

Instructing how to address cold spots in radiators, a British Gas expert shared tips on using a low-cost tool priced at just 97p. When encountering chilly areas or slow heating along with gurgling sounds, bleeding the radiator with a radiator key can resolve the issue by releasing trapped air.

Prior to bleeding the radiator, it is crucial to switch off the heating system to ensure safety. Wait for the radiator to cool down completely to prevent any burns from hot water. Prepare an old towel and a container to catch the water that will be released during the process. Locate the small valve on the radiator and use the key to turn it anti-clockwise.

Peter Knowles, a technical repair engineer at British Gas, advised opening the valve slightly until a hissing sound is heard, indicating the escape of trapped air. Once water starts coming out, catch it in the container, then tighten the valve and proceed to the next radiator. Avoid over-turning the valve to prevent lowering the boiler pressure excessively.

If the problem persists after attempting to bleed the radiators, seeking assistance from a gas-safe registered engineer is recommended. Additionally, a British Gas energy engineer suggested a tip to maximize heat efficiency by leaving the oven door open after cooking to warm the kitchen gradually.

Energy bills have recently increased, with the average household paying around £1,758 annually for gas and electricity. The price cap determines the maximum charges for gas and electricity unit rates and standing charges, but the total bill depends on individual energy usage. Pre-payment meter users now face a price cap of £1,711 per year, while those paying upon receipt of the bill are charged about £1,894 annually.
