Newly released shocking video captures the moment a taxi driver hurls scalding hot oil at a police officer’s face.

Mohammed Sarfaraz, a 45-year-old resident of Gosforth, Newcastle, was sentenced to nine years in prison today for throwing a pan of hot cooking oil at multiple officers, injuring two and causing scars to one.

The incident took place on January 10 when five officers approached Sarfaraz regarding a criminal allegation at a property where he made verbal threats. Sarfaraz then barricaded himself in the garage, where he was eventually apprehended after being Tasered.

Following his arrest, Sarfaraz was charged with affray, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was convicted after a trial.

One of the officers, PC Christopher Bain from Northumbria Police, suffered second and third-degree burns on his skin, resulting in scarring on his face and chest.

During the sentencing, Judge Robert Adams described how Sarfaraz swung the hot oil at the officers intentionally, causing injuries. Sarfaraz falsely claimed he was about to cook an egg when the police intervened.

In a separate incident on May 28, 2024, Sarfaraz confronted officers outside his wife’s home in Kenton, Newcastle, over child visitation rights, leading to a physical altercation where he assaulted a police officer.

Sarfaraz was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, and assaulting a police officer.

Despite maintaining his innocence in a lengthy statement to the judge, Sarfaraz accused the police of mistreatment and attempted to manipulate the court. However, the judge dismissed his claims.

Detective Inspector Marc Lennox commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism during the violent incident. He expressed satisfaction with Sarfaraz’s lengthy prison sentence and the officers’ continued dedication to their duties.
