Anthony Joshua’s driver in Nigeria is anticipated to face charges of ‘reckless driving’ following a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of two of the boxer’s close associates. The individual, a 47-year-old member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, is expected to be formally charged within the next 48 hours, according to reports.
After being discharged from a hospital in Lagos on New Year’s Eve, the driver was transported to Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, where the fatal crash occurred. Following hours of questioning, he provided an official account of the events leading up to the accident, which claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, two of Joshua’s dear friends.
Joshua, who was also released from the hospital, paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home alongside his mother before their repatriation to the UK. According to a police source cited by the Mail, the driver, having received treatment for minor injuries, was questioned at the state police headquarters and is expected to face charges related to reckless driving.
The incident occurred when Joshua was traveling in a black Lexus Jeep that collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The driver of the truck involved in the crash fled the scene and is now wanted by the police. Investigations suggest overspeeding and a burst tire contributed to the loss of control that led to the fatal collision.
Eddie Hearn, chairman of Joshua’s promotional company Matchroom, expressed condolences for the deceased individuals following the tragic incident. Sky has announced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming 2025/26 season, offering over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including at least 215 live Premier League games.
