“Argos Introduces Budget-Friendly Sky Q Alternative”

Must read

Argos is currently offering a popular alternative to Sky Q-style upgrades for households interested in a cost-effective solution. The Manhattan S4-R set-top box, introduced recently, provides similar features to Sky’s premium service. Users can enjoy recording programs, pausing live TV, and storing content on its internal hard drive without the burden of monthly fees.

Unlike Sky Q, which requires ongoing payments, the Manhattan S4-R grants access to over 100 channels post-purchase, with no additional charges. Operating with Freesat, the device utilizes existing satellite dishes to deliver a range of free TV channels, such as BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, Legend, Sky Mix, TLC, U&Dave, and That’s TV 2.

The user-friendly Manhattan S4-R boasts a straightforward interface, search functionalities, and access to a vast library of on-demand content, totaling over 60,000 hours. Supported apps include BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5. While it may not cater to premium sports and movie packages like Sky Q, Freesat’s appeal lies in its cost-free viewing experience.

Priced at £219.99, the Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available at retailers like Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions anticipated soon. The device has garnered high demand, as indicated by Argos labeling it as “in demand” and “selling fast.”

Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the S4-R’s enhanced recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, a step up from the previous two-channel limit. Positioned as an attractive alternative for households seeking a budget-friendly and flexible TV service, the S4-R presents a compelling option.

In a similar vein, the Pleio puck has entered the market as another disruptor to traditional TV services. Offering over 50 live channels via the internet, it eliminates the need for an aerial. After initial stock shortages, the Pleio puck is now restocked and available for purchase at £99.99, inclusive of a gaming controller and access to over 200 online games.

Sky has announced a 20% price reduction in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup. The Sky Glass Air TV now starts from £4.50 per month, while customers opting for the upgraded Sky Glass Gen 2 model, featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, will need to pay from £11 per month.
