Anthony Joshua Returns to Training After Tragic Car Crash

Must read

Anthony Joshua has resumed training at the boxing gym nearly three weeks after a tragic car accident in Nigeria. The former two-time heavyweight world champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that crashed into a stationary truck near Lagos, resulting in the loss of two close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Their funerals were held in London on January 4.

While in Nigeria for a holiday and family visit, Joshua had recently defeated Jake Paul before the accident. Following a brief hospital stay, Joshua has been seen working out in the gym, engaging in what he calls “mental strength therapy.” He has shared images of his training sessions, including lower body exercises, stationary bike rides, and pool workouts.

Despite reports suggesting Joshua’s retirement due to the crash, his uncle disclosed that Joshua had privately informed his family of his decision to retire from boxing. However, Mirror Fighting reports that Joshua has not made a final decision on his future in the sport.

The driver involved in the accident has been charged with various offenses related to the crash. Reports indicate that Joshua narrowly escaped a fatal outcome by moving to the back seat of the vehicle before the collision. As he takes time to heal and recover, his promoter Eddie Hearn emphasized the need for Joshua to make his own decision about his boxing career in due time.

Hearn expressed his belief that Joshua will eventually return to boxing but stressed the importance of allowing him the necessary time to heal both physically and emotionally. The focus remains on Joshua’s well-being and recovery, with thoughts extended to the families of the deceased and ongoing support for Joshua during this challenging period.
