Luke Littler and his fellow competitors are gearing up for a lucrative opportunity in Riyadh next week. The World Series of Darts will make its debut in Saudi Arabia with a prize of $200,000 (£149,000) up for grabs for anyone who can achieve a nine-dart finish followed by a ‘golden bull.’
This two-day tournament, commencing on Monday, will feature eight PDC Tour representatives facing off against eight Asian Tour representatives. The highlight of the event is the chance to win a substantial prize. If a player successfully hits a nine-darter, they will secure a $100,000 (£74,700) reward and then have the unique opportunity to double it by aiming for the bullseye with one ‘golden’ dart. This prize for a nine-dart finish sets a new record in the sport, making it an enticing challenge for Littler and his competitors.
Littler, an 18-year-old darts sensation, recently made headlines by claiming a £1 million prize for winning the World Championship. Following this success, he landed a lucrative contract worth £20 million over 10 years with his darts supplier. Known for his exceptional skills, Littler previously threw nine perfect darts in the World Series event in Bahrain in 2024, showcasing his talent once again in the upcoming tournament.
The concept of offering substantial rewards for exceptional performance is reminiscent of the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship. This championship features the “Riyadh Season golden ball,” a 20-point golden cue ball that can lead to a $1 million (£760,000) bonus for achieving a 167 break, a first in the sport.
Former World Championship semi-finalist Mark Webster highlighted the allure of the prize pool, emphasizing the potential rewards for hitting a perfect ten darts. Littler will be joined by other top darts players in Riyadh, including Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price, Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall, and Danny Noppert.
Before heading to Riyadh, Littler and his competitors are currently participating in the Bahrain Masters. This event follows Littler’s recent victory at the World Championship, where he secured his second world title by defeating Van Geen in the final. Littler’s remarkable performance includes achieving a 170 ‘Big Fish’ check-out against veteran Paul Lim to advance to the quarter-finals, alongside Humphries, Van Veen, Van Gerwen, Bunting, and Aspinall.
