Last night, emergency services responded to Scarborough Beach following an incident where two teenagers were injured by fireworks. The youths, both 18 years old, sustained injuries to their hand and face while handling the fireworks, as reported by North Yorkshire Police. An Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene in Yorkshire, and the teenagers were swiftly taken to James’ Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough for medical attention.
The fireworks display was apparently unauthorized, according to witnesses. One observer mentioned the challenges emergency services faced due to traffic congestion, suggesting that street closures during such events would be beneficial.
Social media images depicted youths gathered around a bonfire near the RNLI station on the beachfront. A video circulating online captured a firework explosion, with a person seen holding a sparking firework, surrounded by cheering friends. The video captured the moment the firework ignited, causing an unexpected explosion.
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed receiving an emergency call reporting the incident at 7:13 pm on November 5th. Multiple ambulance units, including two ambulances and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Subsequently, two patients were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Another witness described the chaotic scene at Scarborough Beach, likening it to a warzone. They highlighted the need for authorities to address the safety concerns arising from such incidents.
In response to the incident, the Scarborough Moan Facebook page shared information about the serious injuries sustained by children at the beach. The page administrator disabled comments to prevent the spread of rumors and maintain focus on the essential details.
North Yorkshire Police are seeking witnesses to provide information regarding the incident. They reported that two teenagers, aged 18, were injured by fireworks at Scarborough foreshore. The beach was temporarily closed for the air ambulance to land, but the casualties were eventually taken to the hospital by land ambulance, leading to the beach’s reopening. Investigations are ongoing, and the police urge anyone present at the scene to come forward if they have not already spoken to the authorities.
