Frankie Dettori Retires After Brazilian Triumph

Must read

Frankie Dettori has officially retired from his illustrious jockey career after achieving one last major victory in Brazil by winning the first leg of the country’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, Dettori decided to continue his career in the US but later confirmed his retirement last November at the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar.

In his final farewell tour in South America, Dettori concluded his racing journey at the Gavea racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. He secured two victories, first riding Speak Alpha and then Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro, allowing him to execute his trademark flying dismount celebration for the last time.

Expressing his emotions, Dettori stated to Agentes305, “I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day. It’s been brilliant. I was very emotional. I enjoyed everything. I’ve had a beautiful career and I’m blessed that I can walk away in one piece.”

Despite retiring as a jockey, Dettori announced his future involvement in racing by accepting a global ambassador role with Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing. Reflecting on his journey, he shared on social media, “Racing has been my life. I began riding in Italy as a 15-year-old boy nearly 40 years ago, and this sport has given me everything.”

Dettori expressed gratitude to his family, trainers, owners, stable staff, fellow jockeys, and fans for their support throughout his remarkable career. He thanked everyone for contributing to his dream and for the memories and experiences that will stay with him forever.
