A German autobahn was nearly the scene of a major accident when a couple, aged 37 and 33, allegedly engaged in sexual activity while driving at a speed of 90mph. Witnesses reported seeing the couple’s vehicle swerving across the A1 motorway, prompting one of them to alert the authorities. The couple was apprehended at a petrol station near Münster, with the male driver facing charges of endangering road traffic.
Reports from local media revealed that the car, heading towards Dortmund, veered so sharply to the right at one point that it forced a truck onto the hard shoulder. While Germany’s Autobahn is known for sections without speed limits, around 30% of the roads do have restrictions in place. Additionally, approximately 9% utilize traffic systems to ensure safe operations, with certain areas imposing strict speed limits due to higher traffic volumes or increased risks.
In a separate incident in July, a driver was caught speeding at an alarming 200mph on the Autobahn, exceeding the limit by over 124mph. The unidentified motorist was apprehended during a routine check on the A2 highway near Burg, just west of Berlin. Subsequently, the driver was fined €900 (£784), received a three-month driving ban, and had two points deducted from their license.
