Must read

The Winter Olympics kick off with an impressive ceremony at Milan’s renowned San Siro Stadium. Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli will headline the event as viewers anticipate a talented British team. UK Sport forecasts a potential haul of up to eight medals for Team GB in Italy.

Spanning across northern Italy, the 25th winter games will feature celebrations in Predazzo, Livigno, and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Team GB aims for its most successful medal collection ever, surpassing the five medals achieved in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018. Ice dance duo Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear, dubbed as ‘the new Torvill and Dean,’ are poised to secure the nation’s first Olympic figure skating medal since 1994.

Lilah Fear, the 26-year-old flagbearer at the opening ceremony alongside bobsleigh pilot Brad Hall, expressed overwhelming emotions upon receiving the honor. British curlers are expected to build on their two medals from 2022, including a gold for the women’s team. Notably, the team boasts exceptional skeleton athletes in world champion Matt Weston and his close ally Marcus Wyatt.

Among the leading medal contenders are Mia Brookes, Kirsty Muir, Zoe Atkin, and Charlotte Bankes, all vying for Team GB’s first Olympic gold or silver on snow. The competition, running until Feb 22 and broadcasted on the BBC, will witness nearly 3,000 athletes from 90 nations competing for 116 medals in Milan-Cortina. With 53 athletes representing Team GB, the event is already showcasing exciting qualifying rounds.

Notable events to watch include Weston and Tabby Stoecker in the mixed team skeleton, Brad Hall’s bobsleigh pursuits, and potential medals for Team GB’s curlers. The anticipation is high for various athletes, such as Atkin in freestyle skiing and Bankes in snowboarding. The stage is set for an exhilarating Winter Olympics showcasing the talents and determination of athletes from around the world.
