Topshop is making a comeback to the UK high street through a new collaboration with John Lewis. After shutting down its standalone stores in 2021, the fashion brand will now be featured in all 32 department stores of John Lewis and on their website, with Topman products available in seven stores.
This launch will showcase a curated collection of 130 of Topshop’s most sought-after items, including their renowned denim pieces. The decision to reintroduce Topshop to the high street was finalized last year after successful temporary appearances in various John Lewis stores. This move is part of John Lewis’ substantial £800 million investment in new brands for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Topshop and Topman had disappeared from the UK retail scene following the collapse of Arcadia in 2021, their former owner. The brands were subsequently acquired by ASOS, which initially sold Topshop products online. Topshop made a return to London’s Oxford Street last year with a launch at the Liberty department store.
Michelle Wilson, the managing director of Topshop, expressed excitement about the partnership with John Lewis, emphasizing the convenience it brings to customers in accessing their favorite Topshop and Topman pieces. She highlighted the immediate availability of products for customers to see, touch, and take home the same day, meeting their service expectations.
The reentry of Topshop coincides with London Fashion Week and will be accompanied by promotional activities in Piccadilly Circus and other locations across the UK. This initiative aligns with John Lewis’ growth strategy as it undergoes a significant transformation under the leadership of Peter Ruis.
Ruis, the managing director of John Lewis, affirmed the company’s dedication to enhancing its fashion offerings through investments like the collaboration with Topshop. He emphasized the brand’s commitment to becoming a leading fashion authority on the British high street, positioning itself as the exclusive destination for iconic brands like Topshop alongside other emerging labels.
In addition, John Lewis is set to introduce 14 new fashion, jewelry, and accessory brands this season, further enriching its product offerings to cater to diverse customer preferences.
