A British man, aged 68, was fatally shot during a robbery in southern Ghana, as confirmed by local authorities. The incident occurred on Friday at a bar near the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, approximately 15 miles east of Accra, the capital city. Despite being rushed to the Tema General Hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
According to reports from Modern Ghana, the man was in the company of a group when six young individuals on motorcycles approached them, with one of the suspects seizing his phone. The police disclosed that two of the assailants engaged the group, with one of them forcefully taking the victim’s mobile device from the table. When the victim tried to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects fired a shot, leading the group to flee on their bikes. The Tema Regional Police Command has launched a comprehensive operation to locate the culprits.
A spent 9mm shell was discovered at the scene and has been collected as evidence, as mentioned in the police statement. Police authorities have interviewed witnesses and are actively working to notify the British High Commission about the demise of a British citizen.
In response, a spokesperson from the Foreign Office, as reported by The Mirror, stated, “We are providing assistance to the family of the deceased individual in Ghana.”
