Rescue workers faced a challenging situation when a man got stuck in quicksand, leaving only his head and arm visible when the search and rescue team arrived.
The Bay Search and Rescue team responded to a call about a man trapped in quicksand near Silverdale, Lancashire, on Saturday morning. The man was stranded with a rising tide threatening the area.
According to a spokesperson on the team’s Facebook page, the team quickly located the man lying in a soft gulley, partially submerged but not deeply buried. The team deployed two rescue air pathways to reach him and coordinated with another team for assistance.
After transferring the man into a warmer area and providing medical assessment and treatment, the team safely evacuated him to a nearby café before the tide filled the gulley.
Quicksand is commonly found in regions with high water tables or tidal areas like beaches, marshes, and riverbanks, posing a risk to individuals who may get trapped and exposed to rising water.
Instances of people getting stuck in quicksand, like the case of a British tourist rescued from a deep hole in Rio de Janeiro, emphasize the dangers of such situations. In this incident, the tourist spent hours trapped in the sand before being rescued by a group of bystanders and beach vendors.
