ITV host Rishi Persad shared a chilling experience of witnessing a missile attack during a horse racing event in Dubai, UAE. While presenting alongside Angus McNae, they noticed a red light streaking across the sky followed by explosions, sending shivers down Persad’s spine. Despite the alarming incident, the racing event continued as scheduled.
Persad, 52, plans to return home in time for his wife’s 50th birthday and fulfill his presenting commitments for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. Concerned for his family’s safety, he expressed his desire to be with them and assured that ITV is aware of the situation.
Initially scheduled to fly back to the UK on Sunday, Persad faced flight cancellations due to the ongoing conflict in the region. He managed to secure a flight for Thursday afternoon with no backup plan in place. His trip to Dubai for the Meydan racecourse event turned tumultuous when fellow presenter Megan Nicholls informed him of the escalating situation.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the Dubai Racing Club assured the safety of the event, allowing it to proceed. Notably, landmarks in Dubai, including hotels and the airport, were targeted by missiles during the time Persad was on duty. His anxiety subsided when Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Dubai’s ruler, attended the race meeting, providing a sense of security.
Further complicating the situation, US President Donald Trump announced “major combat operations” in Iran, adding to the geopolitical tensions. As Persad navigates the uncertainties in the region, his primary concern remains his family’s well-being and his safe return home.
