Conor McGregor has officially stated that he will not be participating in the UFC’s event at the White House.
Initially rumored to headline a fight against Michael Chandler on President Donald Trump’s front lawn on June 14, McGregor is now anticipated to make his return to the octagon the following month. UFC CEO Dana White is set to reveal details of the White House card on Saturday night, but McGregor’s name is expected to be absent, with his comeback fight now scheduled for July 11.
In an interview with Smash Cast, McGregor expressed his understanding of the situation, acknowledging the strong support for his White House appearance. He highlighted the potential matchup against Chandler, praising his opponent’s skills and expressing disappointment over the change in plans. Despite the shift in schedule, McGregor remains eager to return to action.
McGregor also revealed his intention to compete at welterweight in his next fight, emphasizing his physical growth since his previous bouts. While awaiting a formal offer for his next opponent, he remains optimistic about his manager’s upcoming negotiations in Las Vegas.
The White House event may now feature Jon Jones making his comeback, possibly facing off against former middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who recently vacated his 205lb title.
