Initially disinterested in creating a film about Bourdain, Johnson’s perspective changed upon meeting actor Dominic Sessa, who portrays Bourdain in the movie. Their shared outlook on various themes prompted Johnson to explore these concepts collaboratively, leading to the development of the film.
The script, drawing inspiration from Bourdain’s early experiences detailed in his book “Kitchen Confidential,” centers on one summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where Bourdain began his culinary journey.
