Faeces-covered house of horrors leaves police ‘heartbroken’ as four kids found alone

A mum who allegedly left her four kids covered in faeces in a house of horrors has been arrested after police were left “heartbroken” by the horrific conditions. Authorities in Louisiana, US, were dispatched to a welfare check at a flat in Lake Charles after receiving a report of four children, under the age of 6, being left alone.

When police entered the home they were appalled to find the flat was covered in faeces, and a “bucket of urine” was left on the side. The children were found to have had a severe nappy rash after soiling themselves, according to cops.

“At approximately 10am, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a welfare check at residence in an apartment complex on Winterhalter Street in Lake Charles after receiving a report of four children, under the age of 6, being unsupervised,” police said in a press release.

“During the investigation, CPSO Special Victims Unit detectives arrived on scene and observed the apartment to be covered in faeces with a bucket of urine inside,” CPSO officials alleged. “The children were observed to be soiled, with the youngest having a severe diaper rash.”

Two hours after the welfare check, the mum of the children, 25-year-old Daionjanee R. Young, came back to the flat.

When probed by police, she admitted leaving the children at home to sleep at around 2am to pick up food at a fast food restaurant. However, when she discovered it was shut, she visited a friend’s house where she admitted to falling asleep.

“It is heartbreaking to see children living in these conditions,” said Sheriff Stitch Guillory. “We appreciate the community members who alerted us to this situation.”

Young is charged with four counts of child desertion and four counts of cruelty to juveniles.

The children have been placed in state custody by the Department of Child and Family Services, police said.

It comes after a teenager killed his mum and stepdad and then lived with their decomposing bodies for 12 days. Nikita Casap, 17, appeared in court on Thursday on a slew of charges, including first-degree intentional homicide, for the gruesome killings of his mum and stepdad in their Waukesha home last month, said a new complaint filed by authorities

In the two weeks leading up to the grisly slayings, Casap had been absent from school, and that along with some “weird or suspicious” texts from his stepdad’s phone, sparked a police welfare check at the family home.

On searching the property, Tatiana’s body was found buried under a pile of clothes and blankets in the hallway.

She had multiple shots to her neck, upper torso, abdomen and right wrist. Donald had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was found in the first floor office.

Law enforcement had to use alternative methods to confirm identities because both bodies were in a state of decomposition, according to prosecutors, who added that the pair died around February 11, or 17 days before their discovery on February 28.
