Apple has launched the new-generation AirTag, an essential tool for those who frequently misplace their belongings. These compact trackers, initially introduced in 2021, gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. With their small size, AirTags can be easily attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
The latest AirTag iteration boasts an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, offering a significantly extended range. Apple claims that this upgrade improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it easier to locate lost items from greater distances. Additionally, Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track misplaced items directly from their wrists.
Apple has also enhanced the new AirTag’s audio capabilities. With a redesigned internal speaker, the updated AirTag can emit sounds that are 50% louder than its predecessor, facilitating easier location in hard-to-reach spots.
AirTags continue to leverage Apple’s expansive Find My network, utilizing nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system has been revamped with a focus on privacy, ensuring that location history is not stored on the AirTag and all communications with the Find My network are encrypted end-to-end for owner-exclusive access.
The latest AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
The new AirTag is now available for ordering on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected later this week. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original launch price of £35.
