A family have been hospitalised after a multi-vehicle crash on a busy dual carriageway, which has left a toddler fighting for his life.
The victim, aged one, was travelling in a white Peugeot on the A303 near Amesbury when it collided with a Volvo on Friday. According to police, the two vehicles crashed after a Skoda joined onto the A303 eastbound at the Amesbury Road junction.
Wiltshire Police said the Peugeot spun onto the westbound carriageway at around 5.30pm in the afternoon. A woman in her 20s, who was driving the vehicle, endured serious injuries, whilst the toddler’s injuries have been deemed as life-threatening.
Another passenger in the car, aged five, sustained minor injuries. It has been reported that the driver of the Volvo, also sustained minor injuries.
Police have since launched an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage. In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision on the A303 near Amesbury yesterday afternoon, in which a young child suffered life-threatening injuries.
“The incident took place at around 5.30pm near the Bulford junction, east of Amesbury. A grey Skoda Karoq has joined the A303 eastbound at the Amesbury Road junction and has collided with a white Peugeot 208 travelling in the same direction.
“This has caused the Peugeot to spin onto the westbound carriageway through the gap in the barriers for the Allington track, colliding head-on with a silver Volvo V70 travelling in the opposite direction.
“The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 20s, suffered injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-threatening. A passenger in the Peugeot, a one-year-old boy, suffered life-threatening injuries. Another passenger in the Peugeot, a five-year-old boy, suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-changing.
“The driver of the Volvo, a man in his 70s, suffered reportedly minor injuries. The road was completely closed in both directions to allow for recovery to take place. The eastbound carriageway has now reopened and the westbound carriageway is due to reopen shortly.”
