In preparation for the holiday season and to coincide with peak travel times, British Airways has unveiled a significant adjustment that will impact its dedicated clientele.
The airline has formally announced that starting on Monday, December 15, 2025, the costs of Reward Flights will be raised, affecting both the Avios points and cash components of the fare. Flights reserved using Avios are known as Reward Flights.
This increase will apply to all British Airways flights and associated airline partners. The UK carrier attributed the price hikes to “escalating Air Passenger Duty and third-party fees” alongside “ongoing inflation.”
British Airways has shared specific instances of the price surge on its official portal, including an off-peak round-trip from London to New York. Presently, the Avios points required for this journey are as follows:
However, commencing December 15, travelers should anticipate an increase of up to 14,000 Avios for the same London to New York flight using Reward Flights.

The airline disclosed these alterations in an email dispatched to customers on Wednesday, December 3. A statement from British Airways stated: “While our Reward Flight Saver flights continue to deliver remarkable value to our members, a combination of factors, including Air Passenger Duty, rising third-party charges, shifting market conditions, and continuous inflation, has compelled us to adjust our prices. We have provided our members with ample notice to aid in their planning.”
For individuals with upcoming bookings who wish to make modifications, the airline clarified: “If you possess an existing booking and opt to reschedule the flight for travel on or post December 15, the existing rates will be upheld if the changes are made before December 15. Alterations made after December 15 to the flight time or date within the same seasonal range and destination will not incur an additional Avios charge.”
