Paul Gascoigne, also known as Gazza, will have his life story adapted into a television series, where actors will be chosen to portray his family members. The upcoming show will depict his remarkable journey from a modest upbringing in Gateshead to his peak of fame during the Italia ’90 World Cup. Gascoigne has expressed his commitment to showcasing the struggles of addiction and his time in treatment facilities, both domestically and internationally. Auditions are underway for actors to fill key roles, including his siblings Carl, Lindsay, and Anna.
In a candid account, the 58-year-old Gazza revealed his personal battle with alcoholism, recounting a near-death experience during rehab in Arizona in 2013. The TV series, titled “Gazza: The Life Story,” will feature his family members, notably his mother Carol, who remains a strong influence in his life. Reflecting on his childhood, Gascoigne reminisced about his mother’s support and guidance, along with his father’s pivotal role in introducing him to football at a young age.
In his latest book ‘Eight,’ published by Reach Sport, Gascoigne revisits his emotional return to Heathfield School in 1990, following his memorable performance in the World Cup. Despite facing setbacks, Gascoigne’s tears during the World Cup semi-final brought him worldwide recognition. He received accolades from both teachers and students at Heathfield, aiming to prove wrong a former teacher who doubted his potential as a footballer.
Discussions are underway with multiple television networks regarding the broadcast rights for the upcoming drama. Notably, the 2022 documentary ‘Gazza,’ aired on BBC2, received the prestigious ‘Best Documentary Series’ award at the 2023 Royal TV Society Awards.
