Google has announced that it will stop supporting Chrome on older versions of Apple’s macOS, impacting MacBook users. While Chrome will remain usable on MacBooks and iMacs, there will be no further updates or security patches, leaving users potentially vulnerable to security risks. The changes will take effect from July this year, with Chrome 150 being the last version compatible with macOS 12 (Monterey). Users on older macOS versions will need to upgrade to macOS Ventura or newer to continue receiving browser support.
Unfortunately, some Mac models, such as iMacs older than 2017 and pre-2018 MacBook Airs, are not compatible with macOS Ventura, requiring affected users to consider purchasing a new device for continued Chrome use. Google has outlined that Chrome 151, set for release on July 28, 2026, will mandate macOS 13 Ventura or later for updates. Users are encouraged to transition to macOS 13 or newer to ensure ongoing security updates and access to Chrome features.
It is advised that users currently on macOS 12 (Monterey) make the necessary transition to a supported macOS version to maintain browser functionality and security.
