Inside luxury London hospital that has treated both King Charles and Princess Kate

Must read

The London Clinic, an exclusive private hospital nestled in the heart of Marylebone, London, has recently been treating both King Charles III and the Princess of Wales after their cancer diagnoses. Buckingham Palace released a statement on Thursday revealing Charles, 76, “required a short period of observation in hospital” after experiencing side effects from his cancer treatment. He is thought to be recovering at his London Clarence House home as a precautionary method.

Known for its world-class facilities and discreet, high-quality care, the clinic has a history of catering to high-profile figures. Founded in 1932, The London Clinic has earned a sterling reputation for medical excellence.

Its prestigious list of former patients includes the likes of former Prime Minister Clement Attlee, US President John F. Kennedy, and Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor. The clinic’s commitment to providing the finest healthcare has attracted celebrities, dignitaries, and even members of the British royal family.

In January 2024, Kate underwent planned abdominal surgery at The London Clinic. Her stay lasted two weeks, during which time she reportedly received around-the-clock care from a dedicated medical team.

In a rare convergence of royal appointments, King Charles was also scheduled to receive treatment at the same facility during her stay. Before undergoing his own procedure for an enlarged prostate, the King paid a visit to Princess Kate.

The hospital opened in 1932 and has previously admitted Prince Phillip and Princess Margaret. Patients get their own concierge service, and the hospital’s chef serves fish from Cornish boats and meat from historic Smithfield Market. Rooms have an electronic patient-controlled bed, en-suite bathroom, a safety deposit box, and a TV.

The London Clinic is no stranger to royal patronage. As Prince of Wales, King Charles himself inaugurated the clinic’s physiotherapy department in 1989. A few years later, Princess Margaret officially launched its MRI unit in 1991, further cementing the institution’s association with the royal family.

Throughout its history, The London Clinic has continued to innovate and expand its medical services. Today, it offers cutting-edge technology and treatment options across various specialties, attracting patients from all over the world.

Its staff are known for their expertise and discretion, ensuring privacy and comfort for high-profile visitors. The recent treatments of King Charles and Princess Kate have shone a spotlight on the hospital once again.

It remains one of the most esteemed private healthcare institutions in the UK, trusted by royalty and celebrities alike. And while the hospital isn’t reserved for A-listers, treatment does come with a hefty pricetag.

But for those with private medical insurance, it is possible to secure treatment at the hospital located on Devonshire Place in London.
