Must read

People are currently experiencing disruptions in their internet services due to significant outages impacting Microsoft caused by its cloud service provider. Here is a breakdown of the companies that will be affected by this situation.

Reports of the issue first surfaced on Downdetector around 3.30pm in the UK, with users facing difficulties accessing cloud-based services, websites, and applications. The outage is impacting a wide range of platforms that rely on these cloud networks, including Microsoft365, Xbox, Outlook, Starbucks, Costco, and Kroger.

This incident follows a previous week where numerous websites and apps encountered downtime due to a global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage. AWS supports the infrastructure of various digital platforms, and the service is currently experiencing issues, affecting the functionality of multiple online services. This time, the problem seems to be affecting Microsoft’s Azure.

Microsoft has informed users that access to Office 365, Minecraft, and other services through its Azure cloud portal may be disrupted due to problems with its global content delivery network services. The company has acknowledged the issue on its Azure status page and social media platforms and is actively investigating and addressing the access problems related to its Azure Front Door service.

The simultaneous outages of AWS and Azure are concerning as these two companies play a crucial role in powering a significant portion of the global internet infrastructure, supporting various sectors from retail and entertainment to business operations and cloud storage.

Numerous individuals have taken to social media to express their frustrations about the outage, with one user commenting, “First AWS, now Azure goes down. I love it when big companies own half the internet!!!”.
