Must read

A man in his 30s has been left fighting for his life after he was attacked outside a McDonald’s. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called just before 7.35pm last night to reports a man in his 30s had suffered a serious head injury after being struck in the face and collapsing to the floor in Liverpool city centre.

The man, who was visiting the city, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition. A cordon remains in place this morning while forensic examination continues, with police asking people visiting the city centre to remain patient while enquiries continue. Officers are examining CCTV and speaking to potential witnesses.

Four men, believed to be known to the victim, have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and taken into custody for questioning, reports the Liverpool Echo. They are a 19-year-old man from Redditch, a 26-year-old man, and a 37-year-old man, both from Birmingham and a 31-year-old from Hollywood, Worcestershire.

One witness working close to the scene said saw “three people around the man” after the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry said: “This assault has left the victim in a critical condition during what should have been an enjoyable night out in Liverpool. People should be able to visit our city centre without any fear of being a victim of – or even witnessing – an incident such as this.
