Mother and Seven Children Left Homeless After Bristol House Fire

Must read

A mother in Bristol is facing a devastating situation after a fire destroyed her council-owned home, leaving her and her seven children homeless. The incident occurred on Monday, October 20, in Knowle, Bristol, prompting a quick response from firefighting crews.

Hayley Lundie, 30, expressed feeling trapped in a nightmare as they lost everything in the blaze. She mentioned that the fire followed a prolonged struggle to get Bristol City Council to address faulty electrics in her residence, which had been deemed unsafe by a surveyor.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. According to a fire service spokesperson, crews managed to extinguish the fire using high-pressure hose reels and safety jets.

Hayley recounted her efforts to seek repairs from the council, stating that despite repeated requests, the necessary actions were not taken, leading to the tragic incident. She highlighted the challenges her family now faces in finding new accommodation and dealing with the loss of their belongings.

The family, which includes Hayley, her partner, and children aged between eight months and nine years, had moved into the council property in April 2024. Hayley had raised concerns about various issues with the house, particularly the faulty electrics, but claims that her pleas went unheard.

The situation worsened when a plumber discovered problems with the property’s electricity, leaving them without hot water and heating for two days. Subsequent evaluations by electricians revealed serious safety hazards, prompting Hayley to declare herself and her family homeless.

After the fire incident, Hayley sought assistance from Bristol City Council, which provided emergency accommodation for two weeks in Easton. A fundraising campaign has also been set up to support the family in their time of need.

Bristol City Council acknowledged the distressing situation and stated that they are providing support to the affected family. Temporary accommodation, food vouchers, and clothing assistance have been offered while investigations into the fire continue.
