“Prince Andrew Faces Testimony Call in Epstein Probe”

Must read

Prince Andrew has received a warning that he will be called upon to provide testimony regarding his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein before a US congressional committee. The committee, highly interested in speaking with him, intends to address his involvement in light of recent developments, including Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir.

Stephen Lynch, a key member of the US House Oversight Committee overseeing the ‘Epstein Files’ compiled by the FBI, stated his intention to have a conversation with Prince Andrew about his role in the situation following the release of Giuffre’s memoir. Lynch emphasized that the committee’s inquiry would continue, indicating that an invitation for Andrew to discuss his association with Epstein was probable.

Lynch emphasized the significance of hearing from individuals involved in the Epstein case, citing the emotional distress expressed by the women who came forward. Although Prince Andrew may be asked to provide testimony, as a UK citizen, he cannot be formally subpoenaed to appear at a hearing, leaving the decision to participate in his hands.

Recent attention has been focused on Prince Andrew’s ties to Epstein following the publication of Giuffre’s memoir, where she reiterated her allegations of being trafficked to the prince. Despite vehement denials from Prince Andrew, the book detailed three alleged encounters between Giuffre and the prince and highlighted the impact of his controversial Newsnight interview back in 2019 on her legal pursuit against him.

In response to ongoing allegations, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson announced the relinquishment of their royal titles to prevent further distraction from the royal family’s duties. Buckingham Palace confirmed this decision, with Prince Andrew expressing his commitment to prioritizing his family and country over public life. Pressure has mounted for Andrew to be stripped of his dukedom, a decision that rests with the parliament, while calls have been renewed for him to vacate the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Reports revealed that Prince Andrew has paid minimal rent for the £30 million property over two decades, having initially secured a 75-year lease in 2003 for £1 million and subsequently paying only a nominal annual rent of “one peppercorn” if requested.
