Sky Sports Presenter Shares Cancer Battle: From Fear to All-Clear

Must read

Sky Sports presenter Jo Wilson has shared her experience battling cancer, expressing her initial fear of death and the emotional turmoil she faced upon receiving the diagnosis. Diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2022 during a routine smear test, Wilson underwent treatment for six weeks after further tests revealed the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Despite the challenging journey, she received the all-clear in June 2023.

Joining Sky Sports in 2011, Wilson underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy as part of her treatment, which ultimately saved her life but led to early menopause impacting her career. The cancer diagnosis came shortly after giving birth to her daughter in 2020, adding to the emotional strain she endured.

In a documentary titled “Football, Cancer, and Me,” Wilson opened up about her struggle, emphasizing the importance of seeking medical help when something feels wrong. The documentary also features discussions with colleagues, including Emma Saunders and former manager Tony Mowbray, who shared their own battles with cancer.

Saunders, who underwent surgery for a brain infection following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, reflected on her challenging journey, while Mowbray discussed his experience with bowel cancer. The documentary sheds light on the personal stories of these individuals, highlighting the importance of early detection and support during such difficult times.

Sky Sports has announced a significant price reduction for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the upcoming season, offering members savings and over 1,400 live matches across various leagues. The broadcaster will air at least 215 live Premier League games in the upcoming season, a substantial increase from previous years.
