Stacey Solomon admits camera crew kept interrupting rows with Joe Swash while filming new show

Must read

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash have shared their secret to avoiding arguments in their new documentary. The couple are set to launch their own fly-on-the-wall reality series, which premieres tomorrow. Opening the doors of Pickle Cottage, the show offers a glimpse into their lives as they juggle parenting six children while staying in the public eye. But with cameras rolling around the clock, Stacey and Joe have found an unexpected way to sidestep minor squabbles.

The couple appeared on The One Show today, where they discussed their unique tactic. Host Alex Jones asked if they were ever aware of the cameras constantly being around and whether there were days they felt conscious of them.

She questioned: “Were there days when you thought, ‘Oh man, oh no, they’re outside – here we go’?”

Stacey responded: “I’ll be honest, they’ve become our friends. It was lovely, it was a bit of extra company. Because we’re a busy household—we’re seven just us—and obviously my sister’s always over, Joe’s family are always over.”

Speaking about the cameras constantly being on, Stacey added: “You don’t notice, to the point where we’d start having a little domestic about something and then suddenly remember,” as she gestured, implying she would signal the camera crew to come over.

Joe then joked: “Quick, quick, let’s try to turn this around.” Stacey quipped: “We’ll be like, ‘Oh, they can hear us, they’re watching.'”

Joe went on to explain that they wanted the documentary to feel as real as possible: “We decided when we were gonna do this, it was going to be warts and all. It wasn’t just going to show the glamorous side, it was going to be the ups and downs.”

Stacey chimed in, teasing the show: “In fact, we make it pretty clear there isn’t much of a glamorous side!”

The show, called Stacey & Joe, features five of the couple’s children as well as Stacey’s sister, Gemma, dogs, Peanut and Teddy – as well as ducks, Daisy and Delilah. However, there are two members of the family who don’t make an appearance – Stacey’s mum and Joe’s son, Harry, who he shares with Emma Sophocleous.

Opening up about the experience of filming The Kardashians-style show, Stacey said she’d really enjoyed it, telling House Beautiful: “I mean, it’s been a bit weird – we’re the kind of family who are always popping down to the supermarket together, but obviously, when you’re doing that with a crew, it’s very different.

“It’s been a lot of fun to watch back; it’s just like watching home videos. In truth, I did worry we’d be a bit boring, but seeing it, I was like: ‘Oh my gosh, we’re actually quite funny.’ I would watch us!”
