Tesco apologises to shoppers as it confirms fridge staple has been axed from all stores

Must read

Tesco issued an apology to customers as it confirms one of its fridge staples had been discontinued across all of its UK supermarket stores.

Customers recently took to social media to ask where the product in question had gone. One X – formerly Twitter – user said, “Can I ask @Tesco why you don’t sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery.”

The supermarket chain responded to the dairy lover to confirm that the product had been axed in all of its UK stores and apologised for not being able to share better news. The Tesco spokesperson said: “Good afternoon, thanks for getting in touch. Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I’m sorry for any disappointment.”

In fact, Tesco discontinued the product from its stores several years ago, in 2023. A spokesperson said the move was to help reduce store wastage. They said: “We phased out six-pint bottles of milk back in 2023 to reduce wastage, as there were higher levels of waste on that product size.” It noted that its four pint bottles provided the “same great value per pint,” adding: “Especially as we have reduced milk prices twice in recent weeks.”

When the axing occurred in 2023, one shoppers said: “@Tesco have you stopped selling six pint bottles of semi skimmed milk? Coming up as unavailable on app and none on shelf in store this morning”

Others also took to social media, confused that they couldn’t pick up the weekly staple in their local stores. One said, “Any idea why six pints of milk never seem available for online orders? ” A third added, “I buy lots of milk, but it’s annoying having to pay more by purchasing four-pint bottles.” One shopper claimed that Tesco had axed the staple so it could “milk more money from customers with smaller cartons” and another said that they would now be shopping at Aldi from now on.
