The Original Factory Shop, a well-known retailer, has recently brought in administrators to oversee its operations. Interpath Advisory was appointed as administrators last week, raising concerns for the future of 137 stores and 1,180 jobs associated with the discount retailer.
Despite the appointment of administrators, The Original Factory Shop’s physical stores are still open for business while the administrators explore various options to sustain the company. However, the retailer’s online operations have been suspended as part of the restructuring process.
Challenges faced by The Original Factory Shop include escalating operational costs, particularly labor expenses, and reduced sales due to consumer spending constraints. Complicating matters further are issues related to its third-party warehouse and logistics provider. The company, established in 1969, was acquired by Modella Capital last year.
Rick Harrison, the managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, expressed regret over the situation, citing trading difficulties as the primary reason for the administration. He emphasized the commitment to work closely with the retailer’s employees to keep the stores operational and explore potential strategies to secure the business’s future.
