Tractor ploughs into houses tearing off front walls as A51 forced to close

Must read

A tractor has smashed into two houses, tearing off the front walls and sparking travel chaos with the A51 forced to close.

The tractor, which had been towing a tanker, crashed into the front of two homes on the A51 Vicars Cross Road in Chester. A photo taken at the scene of the crash show major damage to houses close to the road with much of the brickwork seen collapsed at the front.

Mirror affiliate CheshireLive said the occupants of both houses are “safe and well” and that the drivers of the tractor and a car also involved in the crash had been taken to hospital. A Cheshire police spokesperson told the outlet: “Officers attended the scene and found that there had been a collision between a tractor and a Mercedes.

“The tractor had also collided with two houses. There are no reports of any serious injuries, but the drivers of both vehicles have both been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precautionary measure.

“The occupants of the houses have all been accounted for, and are all safe and well. The road is currently closed in both directions between Green Lane and the A41 and motorists are urged to avoid the area. The closures are expected to remain in place for several hours.”

A video taken at the scene showed the trail of devastation left along the road up to the houses. In the clip, uploaded to X/Twitter this morning by Seb Morris showed a silver Mercedes with extensive damage to its bumper with the front appearing to have crashed into a pedestrian walk light with a nearby barrier appearing to have buckled under significant pressure.

Moments later, the video showed the extent of damage done to both homes further up the road with walls to the upper bedrooms being completely knocked down. The second home to have been hit in the crash appeared have the wall to the front bedroom being propped up by the tractor roof.

Mr Morris said in a comment included in the post: “Big accident on Tarvin Road this morning. Glad everyone is OK. Must have been a hell of a wake up call for the residents.”
