Must read

Parts of the United Kingdom are bracing for snowfall this week, accompanied by a drop in temperatures.

The Met Office’s weather maps indicate that northern Scotland is likely to experience snow and hail from late Friday night into Saturday morning. Additionally, there is a possibility of snow in Wales and northern England on Thursday, according to WXCharts, which utilizes Metdesk data.

The likelihood of snowfall intensifies over the weekend, with significant coverage expected across Scotland, northern England, eastern coastal regions, and Wales. Northern Ireland may also witness snow on Sunday morning, with further flurries anticipated on Monday.

Although the Met Office does not foresee a prolonged cold spell, it warns of the potential for isolated wintry showers towards the end of October, particularly in Scotland’s high-altitude areas. Overnight temperatures between Thursday and Friday could dip to around -1C in regions like County Durham, Cumbria, and Northumberland.

Meanwhile, rural parts of Scotland might face sub-zero temperatures of -7C or -8C, while rural areas in England could see temperatures plummet to -2C or -3C. Meteorologist Dan Stroud from the Met Office anticipates widespread frost and icy patches on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Stroud notes that higher elevations in northern England could also witness snow, albeit briefly. He states, “The rain is expected to briefly turn into snow over the elevated terrains, particularly in northern England and beyond.”

Regarding the upcoming wintry weather, Mr. Stroud reassures that it aligns with seasonal patterns. He remarks, “Temperatures are projected to drop next weekend, with generally changeable and unsettled conditions. However, these temperatures are typical for this time of year.”

The Met Office affirms the possibility of cold nights intermittently throughout October and Autumn, emphasizing this as a normal occurrence. Mr. Stroud clarifies, “The prevailing theme appears to be unsettled weather. A significant cold snap is unlikely, and no extraordinary weather events are expected.”
