A university student described as “super fit” tragically passed away due to a blocked intestine after experiencing severe stomach pain. Joshua Adiefeh, 20, passed away in his university accommodation at Manchester Metropolitan University on September 28, just a week after moving in. He had been suffering from vomiting and stomach pain for several weeks, with his health deteriorating rapidly overnight while spending time with his twin brother, Joel, and older brother, Daniel, who had come to visit him in the new city.
Despite efforts to seek medical help, Joshua’s condition worsened, and he was found unconscious by his brother Joel upon returning with medication. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Joshua was pronounced dead within two hours. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be a blocked intestine, a condition with severe complications.
In a heartfelt tribute, Daniel described Joshua as a selfless and caring person who was always willing to help others. The brothers had spent a quiet evening together before Joshua fell ill, enjoying dinner, a walk, and playing pool. Joshua’s sudden illness took a toll on the close-knit family, with Daniel expressing deep sadness over the loss of his brother.
Following Joshua’s passing, a memorial event in Nottingham attracted over 300 attendees who celebrated his life with speeches, balloons, and fireworks. Both the North West Ambulance Service and Manchester Metropolitan University expressed condolences and offered support to Joshua’s family and friends during this challenging time. Professional counseling services were made available to help those affected by the loss.
