Wrexham school lockdown: Doors shut after ‘threat’ as no one allowed in or out

Must read

A school in Wales was placed into “lockdown” this afternoon. Parents and carers of pupils at Ysgol y Grango in Rhosllanerchrugog in Wrexham received an alert around 2:40pm warning them of the situation.

In the message, the school said: “The school is in a lockdown situation. During this period the switchboard and entrances may not be staffed, external doors locked, and nobody will be allowed in or out. Please do not come onto school site or try to contact your child. We will be in contact with more information soon.” The nature of the incident is yet to be officially confirmed.

A statement from North Wales Police read: “We received a report from staff at Ysgol Y Grange regarding threats made to a pupil at the school by another youth. Officers attended to provide reassurance at the school and are currently speaking with all parties involved. There is no ongoing cause for concern.”

The secondary school then sent another message following the initial alert: “Just to reassure you that this is a precautionary situation, please know that pupils are safe. We will be in contact very shortly.”

Wrexham County Borough Councillor Fred Roberts, an Independent member for Rhos Ward, said he had limited information about what happened at the time. But he said earlier today: “I’m told all the children are safe.”

The students were reportedly allowed to leave the school within an hour of the initial alert as the lockdown is thought to have been declared over. The police and the school gave reassurances that there were no ongoing safety concerns related to the incident.
