“Scottish Island for Sale Raises Safety Concerns”

Must read

A stunning island surrounded by breathtaking landscapes is now available for purchase, but potential buyers have been issued a serious warning. Eilean a’ Chapuill, known as the Island of the Horse, is embraced by magnificent natural beauty.

Offering its own boathouse and sweeping sea vistas, this attractive property is currently listed for offers exceeding £50,000. However, in a surprising twist, real estate agents have raised a red flag for prospective owners.

In their description of the island, they cautioned: “Accessing Eilean a’ Chapuill is a significant health and safety risk due to rapidly changing tides. Therefore, individuals visiting Eilean a’ Chapuill should proceed with great care and entirely at their own risk.”

Situated just off the Knapdale peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, this six-acre island boasts stunning 360-degree views of the water, mainland, and neighboring islands of Jura and Islay. The island can be reached on foot during low tide and by boat as well.

The listing also mentions nearby villages like Crinan, Cairnbaan, and Tayvallich, which offer quaint charm and accessibility to and from Eilean a’ Chapuill. Tayvallich, a picturesque fishing village on Loch Sween, is highlighted for its scenic beauty and vibrant community.

This property is being promoted by estate agents Robb Residential and is part of a recent trend where Scottish islands have been put up for sale. In 2025, the 1,110-acre Shuna Island, featuring a castle and holiday homes, was listed for £5.5 million.

Sotheby’s International Realty described Shuna Island as a place rich in heritage, natural beauty, and potential. The island includes the remains of Shuna Castle from the 20th century and eight properties, as reported by Sky News.

Abundant wildlife, including red and fallow deer, eagles, and porpoises, can be found on the island. The estate agent emphasized the island’s potential for regenerative tourism or as a family estate, offering a unique lifestyle away from the usual hustle and bustle.

The allure of these properties showcases the growing interest in owning a piece of Scotland’s natural beauty and history.
