“Motorist Ticketed for Slow Middle Lane Driving”

Must read

A motorist was stopped by law enforcement and issued a citation for violating a rule that they were likely not aware of while driving on the M6.

The surprised individual was pulled over in Warwickshire and given the ticket following a warning from the police, who observed an increasing number of motorists exhibiting similar behavior on the highway. As per the traffic authorities, the driver was moving at a speed of 55mph to 60mph, which was deemed too slow, and was also guilty of hogging the middle lane.

Warwickshire Police described it as “substandard driving” and noted an increasing trend of similar behavior among drivers, seemingly oblivious to the associated risks. In a statement on Facebook, the law enforcement agency stated: “Officers from A Unit OPU spotted a driver on the M6 Northbound in the middle lane driving at speeds between 55-60mph with no slower-moving vehicles or obstacles in the left lane.

“The officers directed the driver off the motorway and issued a citation for failure to demonstrate reasonable consideration for other road users – the driver is likely to be required to attend a driver improvement course, which will incur costs. There is a growing trend of motorists driving in this manner, seemingly ignorant of the associated risks.

“Other drivers expect that vehicles in the overtaking lane will be traveling at the speed limit for that road and vehicle, and will adjust their approach accordingly, necessitating unnecessary lane changes for overtaking.

“Although the speed limit is just that – a limit, not a target or minimum – it is considered substandard driving to occupy the overtaking lane well below that limit when there is no slower traffic on the left or other hindrances.

“Unless overtaking or avoiding obstacles, please keep to the left lane, or you risk incurring up to 3 points on your driver’s license and a £100 fine.”
