“Former Adult Film Star Convicted of Murdering Ex-Spouse”

Must read

An individual known for adult films has been convicted of murder for the killing of her former spouse after marrying her stepson. Devyn Michaels, aged 47, faces the possibility of spending life in prison for the death of Johnathan Willette, aged 46, whose headless body was found soaked in chemicals at his residence. Willette’s mother discovered his body wrapped in blankets and blood, leading to the arrest of Michaels. Prosecutors alleged that the Las Vegas adult film performer orchestrated the murder due to jealousy, as Willette had gained full custody of their two children.

During Michaels’ trial, prosecutor John Giordani cautioned jurors to prepare for a compelling case as he presented crime scene evidence, including images of the victim’s body. Michaels confessed to striking Willette with a candlestick-like object during a massage session in his bedroom, as revealed in court footage. She then admitted to decapitating him and transporting his head to her own residence, where she disposed of it locally following the crime in August 2023.

Prosecutor Brittni Griffith informed jurors that Michaels wanted to eliminate her ex-husband from her life, even though he was in the process of moving back in with her and their son. Michaels and Willette, who shared two daughters, had a tumultuous relationship that led to divorce in 2018. Curiously, Michaels later married Willette’s son, Deviere Willette, aged 29, in a union described as one of convenience during court proceedings.

Deviere Willette distanced himself from any involvement in his father’s death, refuting accusations made by Michaels’ defense team. Despite the lack of physical evidence linking him to the crime scene, Michaels’ lawyers argued that the absence of witnesses to the murder and the lack of recovered murder weapons or dismemberment tools raised doubt about her alleged actions.

Michaels initially pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement but later proclaimed her innocence during her sentencing hearing last July, prompting prosecutors to pursue a first-degree murder trial. Recently, jurors reached a guilty verdict in the case. The lead prosecutor asserted that Michaels committed the murder to be with her children and stepson, displaying a family photo during the court proceedings to emphasize her motives.

Sentencing for Michaels is scheduled for January 8, where she faces the possibility of life imprisonment with or without parole, as prosecutors opted not to pursue the death penalty.
