A shocking incident unfolded in North Carolina when a woman driving on the US Route 74 highway had a cat unexpectedly crash through her car’s windshield. The woman reported to state troopers that a bald eagle had dropped the feline onto her vehicle, causing significant damage to the windscreen as she was traveling at 55mph.
Pictures reveal the aftermath of the event, showing a shattered windshield and a large hole in the car. The unexpected impact forced the woman to stop immediately and contact emergency services for assistance.
During her 911 call, the woman described the unbelievable event to operators, stating, “Okay, you may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield. It absolutely shattered my windshield.” The operator responded in disbelief but assured her of their belief in the situation.
A witness nearby was equally astounded by the unusual occurrence, with the driver informing the 911 operator about the witness’s reaction, saying, “I had a witness who was like, ‘That is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.'”
After confirming her location, the operator informed the woman that Highway Patrol would be dispatched to the scene to file a report. The woman sadly confirmed that the cat did not survive and was on the side of the road.
Fortunately, the woman sustained no injuries in the bizarre incident, as confirmed by Highway Patrol officials, and the vehicle was later removed from the location. A witness recounted seeing the cat seemingly struggling in the air with the bald eagle just moments before the tragic fall.
While bald eagles typically prey on smaller animals like fish or birds, they may target larger prey like cats if they seem vulnerable due to being young, injured, or old. In a separate incident in June 2022 in British Columbia, Canada, a Yorkshire Terrier named CoCo narrowly escaped a bald eagle’s grasp in its owner’s garden, sustaining minor scratches but ultimately recovering.
