Must read

Rail enthusiasts gathered in Essex today to witness history as the first new train station opened on the Eastern main line in a century. Beaulieu Park marked the inauguration, making it the first station to join the UK rail network in this region since the 1920s. The arrival of the 7.20am train from Colchester drew cheers from crowds as it made its historic stop. Notably, the station’s opening, costing £175 million, occurred four months ahead of schedule. Passengers, like 47-year-old Andy Cross, expressed excitement to be part of this significant event.

Dozens of passengers eagerly awaited the train’s arrival, capturing the moment through photos and videos, with some even live streaming. The station is a part of an eco-friendly project near Chelmsford, Essex, reflecting Greater Anglia’s commitment to providing a convenient and reliable rail service. Martin Beable, the Managing Director, highlighted the station’s strategic location, offering up to four trains per hour during peak times and two trains per hour during off-peak hours.

Councillor Louise McKinlay of Essex County Council praised the station’s role in enhancing transportation in Chelmsford and its surroundings, emphasizing the county’s dedication to infrastructure development. The new station aims to alleviate congestion at Chelmsford’s existing station and reduce car traffic into the city center. Situated in the Beaulieu and Channels neighborhoods, the station is part of the Chelmsford Garden Community, where over 4,350 homes are planned, with some already built.

In addition to housing developments, the community includes amenities like the Beaulieu Square Neighbourhood Center, offering local services. The Beaulieu Park School, Essex’s first all-through primary and secondary school, is already operational. Future plans for the Garden Community involve the construction of more homes, schools, employment spaces, and recreational facilities, promoting job accessibility and economic growth in the area. Beable anticipates the new station’s popularity among travelers in Essex, expecting it to become a preferred transportation option.
