A tragic incident resulted in the death of a five-year-old child after his uncle attempted to cross a railway barricade and outrun an approaching train. The collision caused the car, carrying Fabian Riojas, 24, and Emilio Martinez, five, to be thrown about 300 yards down the road in Texas on November 19. While Riojas was taken to the hospital, the young child succumbed to his injuries.
Official records indicate that Riojas has been charged with vehicular manslaughter. Emilio’s father, Jon, expressed his grief and forgiveness towards his brother, stating that his brother deeply cared for the child. He pleaded for the charges to be dropped, emphasizing that his son would not have wanted his uncle to face legal consequences for the tragic mistake.
Describing the decision to bypass the barricade as an error, Jon shared that his son would have wished for his uncle to avoid jail time. He stressed the love between his son and brother and urged for understanding and forgiveness from others.
A safety official labeled the incident as preventable, emphasizing the importance of obeying warning signals at railway crossings to avoid such tragedies. The official highlighted the need for patience and caution, especially when safety barriers are in place.
