“Team GB Targets Record Medal Haul at Milano Cortina Winter Games”

Team GB is aiming for its most successful Winter Olympics at the upcoming Milano Cortina Games. UK Sport, the organization funding Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, projects between four to eight medals in northern Italy. Previously, Team GB achieved its best Winter Games performance at Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, securing five medals, including one gold.

The optimism surrounding Team GB’s performance this time is fueled by the talented contingent heading to Italy, including world champions, X Games gold medallists, and World Cup podium finishers. The winter athletes from Britain claimed an impressive nine World Championship medals across various sports during the 2024/25 season.

British skiers and snowboarders have excelled, achieving 28 major podium finishes in Olympic events, three Crystal Globes (overall World Cup titles), and a World Championship crown courtesy of Zoe Atkin. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, a curling gold medallist in 2022, emphasized the meticulous preparations and the focus on creating optimal conditions for athletes to perform at their best.

With high expectations set for Team GB in various disciplines such as men’s skeleton, curling, skiing, and snowboarding, Mirror Sport highlights the top contenders aiming for medals in Italy. Weston, a double men’s skeleton world champion, has been dominating the World Cup circuit, securing multiple titles. Muir, a two-time World Cup gold medallist, has shown exceptional skills in slopestyle and big air events. Brookes, the youngest ever snowboarding world champion, has a remarkable track record and potential for Olympic success.

Atkin, the current halfpipe world champion, and Bankes, a world champion and Crystal Globe winner, are also strong medal contenders. Additionally, the duo of Fear and Gibson in figure skating is poised to make history for Britain. Bruce Mouat’s British curlers, the reigning world champions, are expected to continue their success from previous competitions.
