Known for her previous alignment with the MAGA movement, promotion of conspiracy theories, and fierce advocacy for Donald Trump, Greene made headlines in the UK for a heated exchange with Emily Maitlis of The News Agents concerning her claims regarding “Jewish Space Lasers” causing the California wildfires.
Following a public fallout with Trump in recent times, Greene decided to step down due to disagreements with the former president on various issues such as the Epstein files, foreign policy, and healthcare. Trump publicly criticized Greene, labeling her a “traitor” and “wacky,” and indicated his support for a challenger in her upcoming reelection bid. Greene announced that her resignation would be effective on January 5, 2026.
In a post on Truth Social at 6:45 am in Washington DC, Trump appeared to revel in Greene’s decision, mocking her reasons for quitting and highlighting her diminishing popularity and inability to withstand a primary challenge backed by his endorsement. Trump also mentioned Greene’s association with Congressman Tom Massie of Kentucky and emphasized her strained relationship with him.
