“Yaverland Beach on Isle of Wight Named Top Coastal Destination”

Must read

A stunning sandy beach located in one of the sunniest regions of the UK has been recognized as one of the world’s top coastal destinations. Yaverland Beach in Sandown, Isle of Wight, has been included in Tripadvisor’s prestigious Best of the Best list, ranking 15th globally. Surpassing beaches in Turkey, Indonesia, and Greece, Yaverland Beach is celebrated for its vast, golden, dog-friendly shoreline with clear shallow waters and vibrant multi-colored cliffs.

Renowned as a gem of the British coast, Yaverland Beach offers excellent amenities on-site and is complemented by the award-winning The Beach Cafe nearby, making it an ideal year-round destination for a day out.

Yaverland’s distinction is justified by recent reports from the Met Office, declaring the Isle of Wight as the sunniest place in Britain. Residents of this southern paradise enjoy an average of five hours of sunshine daily, contrasting starkly with Lowther Hill in Scotland, the UK’s gloomiest location with less than 2 hours and 45 minutes of daily sunshine.

Shanklin, officially the brightest spot in the sunniest region of the country since last May, has seen a rise in visitor numbers. Located just 2.5 miles from Shanklin, Sandown benefits from the same sunny conditions. Sandown Bay, extending eight miles along the coast from Sandown to Shanklin, was named Britain’s favorite beach by readers of Countryfile Magazine in 2019.

Taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings and coastline, a local community group is currently building a new tidal sea pool at Yaverland. This “Olympic-sized and accessible” pool is a unique development and marks the first of its kind in the UK in a century.

Sykes Cottages offers a diverse selection of handpicked holiday homes across the UK and Ireland, ranging from cozy countryside retreats to stunning coastal getaways, with prices starting at £27 per night.

Another notable attraction in the area is Shanklin Chine, a hidden tourist spot cutting through the clifftops overlooking the Shanklin beach. Formed over 10,000 years, this coastal gorge features waterfalls, woodlands, and lush greenery, offering paid entry for tourists to explore its 400m length and impressive 32m vertical drop.

Yaverland Beach has welcomed illustrious personalities such as Charles Dickens, John Keats, Longfellow, Lewis Carroll, and Charles Darwin, who found inspiration for his work “Origin of the Species” in this scenic location.
