A mother has described her experience as “every parents’ worst nightmare” after setting up surveillance cameras at her residence, capturing a pedophile abusing her daughter. Gary Lewin has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for manipulating and exploiting the teenage girl. The victim’s mother expressed how he had robbed her daughter of her innocence. Leeds Crown Court revealed that Lewin purchased extravagant gifts for the girl, such as a PlayStation 5, an iPhone, and jewelry, then provided her with alcohol and cannabis, and sexually assaulted her.
Lewin, who had confessed to various sexual offenses including engaging in sexual activities with a child and encouraging a child to participate in sexual activities, attended court via video link from prison for sentencing. The prosecutor disclosed that the misconduct began in 2024 after Lewin’s release from prison. He bombarded the girl with numerous messages, creating a relationship dynamic that was more akin to a romantic connection.
The court heard how the relationship developed to the point where the girl stopped attending school. Lewin’s actions progressed from kissing to engaging in sexual activities with the girl. The girl eventually confided in a family member in February, leading to the involvement of her mother and law enforcement. The mother, who had suspicions, had installed cameras in the house that captured incriminating evidence.
Despite bail conditions prohibiting contact, Lewin continued to engage with the girl. The victim was discovered in his company on multiple occasions, even defending him initially. Lewin was caught in August 2024 at an Airbnb location with the girl, where he plied her with alcohol, leading to sexual encounters. The victim’s mother, in a brave statement, detailed the emotional turmoil and devastation experienced by her family due to Lewin’s actions.
Judge Khokhar sentenced Lewin to a total of 13 years, with 12 years to be served in prison and a one-year extended license period. Additionally, Lewin was issued a sexual harm prevention order, an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with the victim, and required to register on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
